St Mary's Primary School, Warracknabeal, was opened in 1901 to provide an education which promotes the Christian formation of its students within the Catholic tradition. From 1928 to 1987 the Ballarat East Sisters of Mercy accepted responsibility for the running of the school. Since then a dedicated lay staff have enhanced the standing of St Mary's throughout the wider community.

The aim of St Mary's is to offer a comprehensive learning environment so that the children will be well prepared to pursue secondary studies. We endeavour to impart to our children a sense of their God-given worth, and to help them understand the ways in which they can relate to others. We consider this to be the basis of the children's moral and spiritual development assisting them to proceed with confidence, generosity and grace into an ever-widening experience of life.

St Mary's is a student-centred community that provides a quality learning experience for all students. The school is successfully creating a learning culture based on high expectations, positive relationships, explicit teaching and learning programs for all students. A whole school approach to excellence is evident.
